If you are interested in coming to a class please email or call Shannon Walker on 0414 694 476.

We train every Wednesday evening from 7.30pm – 9.30pm in the School Hall of the Moorabbin Primary School, on Worthing Road in Moorabbin. The hall is open for half an hour before and after class for self-directed training or individual instruction.

New students are very welcome! Your first class is free. You will not need any equipment but should wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise.

Private lessons may be arranged on request.

Once you decide to join VHCA or continue training you will be expected to purchase some basic equipment:

  • A Fencing Mask
  • Gloves
  • Forearm protection
  • Light chest protection
  • Groin protection for male students and a chest protector for female students.

This is the minimum gear required for class and for very light structured bouting, although we don’t expect you to purchase it straight away! When you are ready to progress to heavier sparring and tournaments you will require more equipment, including a steel sabre. Please ask the instructors for equipment recommendations or see our VHCA Gear Guide.

You will also be expected to purchase the relevant instruction manuals. Please ask the instructors about which manuals to purchase or see the ‘Manuals’ section on the Useful Links page.

The Victorian Historical Combat Academy is a not-for-profit organisation. Our fees are used to cover the cost of facility hire, insurance and equipment purchases for the club. Any additional funds are used to invite guest instructors, marketing and to fund social gatherings throughout the year.

Your first class is free!

Casual classes are $20 per class.

Monthly membership is $50.00 per month ($11.50 per weekly class). Membership also provides an exemption under the Control of Weapons Act (1990) so you can purchase, sell, own and store at home steel swords.

We will also run one-off or short Introductory Courses about specific weapon styles throughout the year. These courses are included as part of your membership fee, or will be charged separately for new and casual students.
